All of the weddings I photograph are special, but this one was particularly special to me: it was the wedding of my sister in law Monika and her new husband (and my new brother in law!) Shaun. I have loved my husband’s sister Monika from the first family dinner we shared together. She is honestly one of the nicest, sweetest, funniest and most caring people I know. She makes everyone feel like they are a part of the family as soon as she meets them, and her happy & care-free spirit is infectious.
Shaun came into our family shortly after I did, and he’s been so obviously crazy about Monika from day 1. When they went to Hawaii together to surf and vacation this winter for a couple of months, I was hoping they would come back engaged: and they did! I knew I wanted to document their day for them right from the beginning, and had been looking forward to this day for months.
This wedding was the culmination of a beautiful friendship and love story, and these two were simply beaming at each other all day. I was blown away by all the work their family & friends put into the wedding: with handmade signs around the property, gorgeous bouquets made by my sister-in-law, the sweetest centrepieces with flowers from my mother-in-law’s garden, and the most delicious buffet dinner cooked and served by some very hard-working family members. My first thoughts when I arrived at ‘the farm’ were “wow, this wedding is right out of a Pinterest page!”.
Congratulations Monika & Shaun. You are beautiful together, and your wedding day was perfect. Love you so much and look forward to MANY more family dinners together.
For now, here are a few previews from their big day.
Monika & Shaun decided to see each other before the ceremony to allow more time for photos. I loved capturing Shaun’s reaction to seeing his bride for the first time:
Before leaving for the ceremony at Monika’s parents’ property, we took some time to capture some group photos at the Beach Club Resort in Parksville.
Gorgeous bouquets made by my sister-in-law Heather.
The ceremony was held in front of the pond in the front yard, and later we retreated into the tent for dinner & speeches.
Such a stunning bride!
